Workshop Title

Using ERPs to Inform Patient Care

Workshop Description

EEG provides an excellent medium to understand neurobiological dysregulation, with the potential to evaluate neurotransmission. Time locked Event related potentials helps capture neural activity related to both sensory and cognitive processes. The research on ERPs is growing at a rate that is significantly greater than the research on qEEG, suggesting ERPs will become an integral part of the EEG evaluation process. This workshop will provide an overview of ERPs, how they are collected, processed and utilized in a clinical setting. There will be detailed discussion of the various ERP components and how they relate to simple ERPs. The process of analyzing the EEG and ERPs using a Brain Function Analyzer will allow discussion of how ERPs can facilitate clinical interventions.

Learning Objectives

1) Explain how ERPs are collected.

2) List the ERP components that are measured with the HBImed database.

3) Explain how ERPs can assist in clinical assessment and treatment.

4) List the steps involved in using the HBImed Brain Function Analyzer to create a comprehensive report.

About Angelika Sadar

Angelika Sadar is a licensed psychologist who has been in private practice in the greater Philadelphia area since 1985. Her work over the years has involved all age groups and clinical presentations. She is a treatment coordinator at Sadar Psychological and is a nationally recognized speaker providing education and offering training to other professionals in neurofeedback, biofeedback, and hypnosis.   In 2018, she was invited to be part of BrainARC Switzerland and began developing evaluation protocols based on the research of HBImed, Switzerland. Presently, her clinical focus is on patients with complex/comorbid presentations and consulting with other psychologists, medical practitioners and other clinicians regarding EEG, ERPs, neurofeedback and practice development.  In 2020, she and Mitchell Sadar were recipients of the Joel F. Lubar award for their contributions to the  International Society for Neuroregulation and Research and the advancement of neurotherapy. She is the Neurofeedback Coordinator for The Trauma Research Foundation and has been the executive director of the Northeast Region Biofeedback Society.

About Mitchell Sadar

Mitchell Sadar is a licensed psychologist who was the director of a Pennsylvania Correctional Institution’s inpatient program for over 15 years. In 1999 he was trained in neurofeedback and tried to bring this modality to the correctional population, but his attempts were not accepted by the Department of Corrections. He then resolved to dedicate his work to biofeedback and developed his private practice. Since 2015 he has been the president of the Northeast Region Biofeedback Society. His background in neuropsychology readily lent itself to learning how the EEG can facilitate neurofeedback training. In 2018, along with his practitioner wife, Angelika Sadar, he was invited to be part of BrainARC Switzerland and began developing evaluations and protocols based on the research of HBImed, Switzerland. In 2020, Mitchell and Angelika were recipients of the Joel F. Lubar award for their contributions to the  International Society for Neuroregulation and Research and the advancement of neurotherapy. Since that time, he has focused on developing assessments that include an analysis of EEG and ERPs to help to guide biofeedback/neurofeedback protocols but also include recommendations regarding psychotherapy and lifestyle changes.
