Workshop Title

Swingle ClinicalQ and Braindriving: A Time-Cost Effective Targeted Approach to Assessment and Treatment

Workshop Description

This full day workshop will present theory, evidence, and practice methods. In the morning, participants will be taught the ClinicalQ; a rapid, efficient assessment method to identify anomalous brain activity associated with clients’ presenting symptoms (e.g., those found in ADHD, learning, focus & memory issues, anxiety, depression and other emotional regulation issues, insomnia, addiction, trauma, etc.)

The afternoon will be hands on, wherein participants will practice the ClinicalQ assessment method and learn how to select, administer (and sequence) protocols based upon the information derived from the ClinicalQ.

In this burgeoning field of QEEG, selecting methods (technologies & equipment) can be overwhelming for many new, as well as seasoned, practitioners. The current speed and complexity of growth, however, has left increasing space for equipment and methods that ‘do it all’ with many assessments/interventions at risk of losing their clinical focus, precision, efficacy and efficiency.

The ClinicalQ and Braindriving method has a strong record of reliability and validity in identifying, and efficiently treating, client specific identified inefficiencies. directly associated with clients’ active symptoms and reported symptom sets. The method simplifies clinical process with precision targeting. Many find it the perfect fit between highly effective broad scope19 channel and easy to use ‘boxed’ programs with unknown reliability/validity.

The method can be administered through vetted hardware/software programs (commercialized suites and report writers approved / supported by Swingle Clinic) or administered on any equipment that can record raw EEG and convert to numerical values following the published parameters, non-commercialized intellectual property of Swingle Clinic.

Learning Objectives

  1. 1) Learn / review the underlying theory and understand the rational of the five 10/20 locations in the ClinicalQ.
    2) Understand the information relevant to each individual 10/20 location, as well as how they interact (single site and constellation patterns to watch for in interpretation).
    3) Learn how to administer the ClinicalQ
    4) Learn how to read and interpret the ClinicalQ assessment, select and administer relevant protocols.

About Mari Swingle

Dr. Mari Swingle is a practicing therapist, clinical researcher, author, educator and public speaker. She has a MA in Education, MA & PhD in Clinical Psych, and has been working in the field of Applied Psychoneurophysiology / Neurotherapy for over 25 years. She was BCIA/EEG certified in Neurofeedback (2000), Associate Fellow 2005, Fellow 2010, Senior Fellow 2017. She sat on the BOD of AAPB (2017-19), wherein her primary mandate was constructing a classification system for Neurofeedback proficiency standards for the American Psychological Association (APA) (granted 2019-2026). She was awarded AAPB Fellowship in 2020. She is a champion of Neurotherapy; dedicated not only to clinical treatment but to disseminating functional (professional and lay) understanding of what Neurotherapy/EEG BrainBiofeedback is, and equally, what it is not.

About Niki Triantafyllopoulou

Psychologist, psychotherapist and expert in adult and adolescent therapy. Dott.ssa  Triantafyllopoulou specializes in the psychodynamic Adlerian approach focusing on personality disorders, anxiety disorders (including panic attacks, phobias, OCD, PTSD), mood disorders (depression-anxiety), and eating disorders.

In 2016, Niki integrated qEEG assessment, Neurofeedback, Biofeedback and HRV training into her practice, particularly the Swingle ClinicalQ Assessment and treatment protocols developed by Drs. Swingle at the Swingle Clinic. With this blend of traditional psychotherapy and brain/body biofeedback Dr.ssa Niki has helped not only hundreds of patients with clinical problems, but also clients aiming for better performance. This includes peak performance and stress assessments for athletes. Dr.ssa Niki further provides remote neurofeedback services in collaboration with professionals in Greece (Athens and Patras).

Niki’s practice in trauma therapy, and interest in weaving in Neurofeedback and Biofeedback modalities for quieting such as HRV sparked further curiosity for developing protocols that would facilitate or otherwise potentiate trauma release. This interest was a natural launching pad for contributing to what soon became the SwingleSonic NeuroDelve App series.

Niki holds a Master’s degree in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Torino, is registered with the Order of Psychologists of Piemonte (No. 6664) and specialized in Individual Adlerian Psychotherapy at S.A.I.G.A. Further certifications include Biofeedback Federation of Europe (BFE) Level 4 Neurofeedback Operator for adults with PTSD. Dr.ssa Niki is also certified / trained in traditional Assessment.

Historically Niki collaborated with the Department of Psychology at the University of Torino as a researcher in Emotion Psychology and has been an active assistant lecturer in psychometrics since 2013. She has worked in several mental health facilities, including the Porto Community (Moncalieri), the Mental Health Center (Pinerolo, A.S.L. TO3), Villa Patrizia Nursing Home (Piossasco), the La Torre Medical Center (Torino), and the Istituto Fisicoterapico di Torino (IFT). Her publications include her research thesis entitled “The Lexicon of Emotions in Modern Greek: A Structural Analysis” and a follow up scientific paper (Testa S., Triantafyllopoulou N., Galati D. (2015), The Dimensions of Emotional Meaning in Modern Greek, Social Science Information 1-17, Oct. 15).

About Davide Del Vento

Davide Del Vento is a highly skilled electronics engineer specializing in telecommunication and signal processing. He earned his Master’s degree in Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino and holds a Diploma in classical guitar from the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory in Genoa. This unique combination of technical and musical expertise has shaped his professional career in the audio and acoustics industry.

Davide began his career as the head of the audio/acoustics team at the Motorola Design Center in Torino, Italy where he was responsible for the audio and acoustic design of numerous Motorola mobile phones.

Then and now, Davide’s main competencies lie in simulation, design, and testing of audio/acoustic systems, as well as in the development of signal processing algorithms such as echo cancellation, voice recognition, and noise control. His expertise also extends to architectural acoustics, making him a most versatile professional in his field.

Currently, Davide leads the Audio/Acoustics laboratory at Reply in Torino. His consultancy work spans several sectors, including telecommunications (Vodafone), automotive (Stellantis, Iveco, CNH), and hearing aids (Luxottica). He has also been involved in tuning audio systems in vehicles, enhancing in-car audio experience for Ferrari and Lamborghini.

During the past decade, Davide branched out further into therapeutic applications of technical and sound engineering, aligning with with dr.ssa Niki Triantafyllopoulou in support of Neurofeedback development. This included the creation of hardware and software tools (sound stimulation, light stimulation, mobile applications) and refining the setup of remote sessions. Davide’s cross disciplinary talents in architectural acoustics and technical engineering were a perfect combination to facilitate the next level of engineering and development of the 3rd generation of Soundhealth Products; now the foundation of the SwingleSonic NeuroDelve products.

Davide’s publications include a thesis titled “Analysis, Modelling, and Synthesis of the Classical Guitar Sound.”
