Workshop Title

HRV Biofeedback Masterclass: Full Protocols for the Treatment of Hypertension, Anxiety/Panic Disorder and Insomnia

Workshop Description

Heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback, a technique based on slow paced breathing, is a powerful tool in the treatment of a variety of physical, behavioural, and cognitive conditions. However, integrating this method into your practice is easier said than done. Clients with dysfunctional breathing patterns will not be able to follow a breath pacer; clients who are sympathetically dominant will not be able to produce a coherent heart rhythm and it proofs very difficult to keep clients motivated to schedule daily breathing exercises. Includes detailed full protocols for the treatment of hypertension, anxiety/panic disorder and insomnia, based on HRV biofeedback and optimization of lifestyle.

This practical 2-day workshop teaches everything you need to integrate HRV biofeedback effectively into your practice. You will learn:

    •
  1. 1) techniques to teach effortless paced breathing (proper use of the diaphragm, correct posture, optimal emotional state and mindset)
  2.
  3. 2) ways to optimize HRV home training: suitable HRV monitoring and pacer apps, tools to keep the client motivated
  4.
  5. 3) the added value of HRV multiple day/night measurement to find the optimal balance between activity and recovery
  6.
  7. 4) full protocols for the treatment of hypertension, anxiety/panic disorder and insomnia, based on HRV biofeedback and optimization of lifestyle

This workshop is suitable for participants with a basic knowledge of HRV biofeedback.

Learning Objectives

  1. After completing this workshop, the participant will be able to provide HRV biofeedback training as a clinical tool and as an optimal performance tool.

About Danielle Matto
Danielle Matto works as a holistic oriented psychologist and BCIA certified biofeedback therapist (BCB-HRV) in mental healthcare. In her private practice she offers short-term treatment, combining general biofeedback, HRV biofeedback and audiovisual entrainment with psychological techniques (ACT, solution focused therapy, stress management). For the last couple of years, she added lifestyle and motivational interviewing to the mix. She treats patients with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, stress, burnout, IBS and hypertension. From the beginning of her career, she is fascinated by biofeedback: “the power of showing your client the effect on the body of changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviour is enormous. It is the best way to create awareness of your autonomic state and to learn internal self-regulation skills: the ability to adjust your psychophysiological state to the demands of the situation and to be able to recover from autonomic imbalance”. In addition to her clinical work she is a teacher and BCIA accredited mentor. She has been actively involved in the Biofeedback Federation of Europe from its founding in 1995 till 2012. She remains a member of the BFE advisory board.
