About Janell L. Mensinger, PhD, FAED

Janell L. Mensinger, PhD, FAED is a Professor in the Department of Clinical and School Psychology at Nova Southeastern University. As an applied quantitative health psychologist and Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, her research program bridges eating and body image disorders, statistical measurement theory, and psychophysiology. She is Director of the CHEERS Lab, which is focused on advancing weight- and size-inclusive science to transform how we understand bodily distress and disordered eating through research on interoception and embodied practices to support human flourishing. By promoting equity-based assessments and using mind-body modalities (e.g., heart rate variability biofeedback, breath-based mindful movement) to enhance interoceptive functioning, her research translates embodiment science into stigma-reducing interventions that foster autonomic flexibility, embodied agency, and resilience. Ultimately, her work aims to empower people across the lifespan to cultivate embodied connection, agency, and human flourishing through intentional reconnection to the body.
